Juan Dolio, Dominican Republic – Tourists visiting the beach town of Juan Dolio were in for a surprise this week as they found themselves walking through an active road construction site. Visitors were seen navigating around heavy machinery and dodging piles of dirt as they attempted to reach the beach.
According to local officials, the road construction was scheduled to take place during the off-season to minimize disruption to tourists. However, an unexpected surge in visitors has resulted in tourists and construction crews sharing the same space.
One tourist, who wished to remain anonymous, said “I had no idea we were in for an obstacle course when we decided to take a walk to the restaurants. I’ve never seen anything like it, it was like a scene out of a comedy movie.”
Another tourist was heard saying “I thought the hard hat and fluorescent vest was a nice touch to my beach outfit” as he was walking around the construction site with his flip-flops on.
Despite the inconvenience, tourists seemed to be taking the situation in stride and even stopped to take photos with the construction workers and machinery.
Local officials have assured tourists that the road works are expected to be completed soon and the road will be open for use. (….but don’t hold your breath) In the meantime, tourists are advised to use caution when walking in the area and to follow any safety instructions from construction crews.
